DR. ALBEE is internationally renowned as one of the world's foremost pioneers in Laparoscopic Excision of Endometriosis. It is through his vision and mission to leave a lasting legacy in endometriosis care that OUR CENTER came to be.
An award-winning surgeon with a lifetime of expertise in endometriosis and advanced minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, Dr. Albee helped thousands upon thousands of patients around the world before retiring in 2023. He is internationally known and respected by both peers and patients alike for his contributions as a trailblazing pioneer in endometriosis advocacy, compassionate care and expert treatment.
Dr. Albee studied among the early leaders in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery and use of the laser for endometriosis and pelvic pain gynepathologies, both on this continent and abroad. In turn, he taught his techniques to countless physicians and surgeons in every corner of the globe, training surgeons in advanced Laparoscopic Excision of Endometriosis (LAPEX) using the C02 Laser. In 1991, he founded the Center for Endometriosis Care (formerly known as the Endometriosis Care Center) to execute his vision and mission of leaving an enduring legacy of providing compassionate, gold standard care to all those affected by the disease.
Dr. Albee was awarded Certification in Advanced Operative Laparoscopy by the Accreditation Council for Gynecologic Endoscopy – one of the first 100 surgeons to receive the honor. He continues to share his expertise to various endometriosis organizations and remains active in many medical societies, including the Medical Association of Georgia, the GYN Laser Society, the AAGL and the International Pelvic Pain Society, among others. He also remains a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology. Dr. Albee received countless awards throughout his career for his humble, compassionate care of patients, including as a "Top 10 Doctor" and "Best of..." He received his undergraduate degree from Hampden-Sydney College and earned his medical degree from the University of Virginia. Later, he served his internship at Roanoke Memorial Hospital and his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Virginia Hospital. He has been included in Who's Who in Virginia for his accomplishments and contributions to medicine. A dedication Humanitarian, Dr. Albee made multiple trips to provide medical assistance to the Penan tribes in the Baram River area of Sarawak in East Malaysia. For many of the people he treated there, Dr. Albee was the only physician they see all year.
Dr. Albee taught the medical community to approach endometriosis unflinchingly. Under the principles of Dr. David Redwine's 'Modern Concepts,' Dr. Albee maintained that all disease CAN be recognized - even in its subtlest manifestations - and, if one is willing to spend the time and refine one's operative skills, CAN all safely be removed. He set forth the CEC’s culture of compassionate, continuous care, reasoning that while our team is involved with an individual's body for only a few hours, they inhabit it their entire life. As such, we are very aware that what we do in those hours, and how we do it, can have tremendous impact on quality of life and well-being for the long term. Dr. Albee collected outcomes data on several thousand of his endometriosis patients, going back to 1991, demonstrating superior outcomes, and helped shape the state of specialty endometriosis care today.
With satisfied patients from every corner of the globe from Singapore to Kenya, Hong Kong to Israel, Venezuela to Italy and everywhere in between, Dr. Albee truly is an internationally acclaimed surgeon, respected by both the worldwide endometriosis and minimally invasive gynecologic surgery communities alike and much beloved by the thousands of patients he has cared for over his lifetime career in endometriosis.
